Email validation
Check an address before you send to it
Catch typos at sign-up, clean a list before you import it and keep your bounce rate down. Each address is checked for syntax, typos, disposable domains, role accounts and mail routing, with an optional mailbox check, and comes back with a result, a score and, for a likely typo, a suggested correction.
curl -X POST https://api.mail.land/v1/validation/email \
-H "X-API-Key: ml_pv_..." \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{ "email": "[email protected]", "verify_smtp": true }'What MailLand checks
Syntax and typos
Format and length checks under RFC 5322, plus typo detection for common domains, such as gmial.com for gmail.com.
Disposable domains
Addresses at known temporary-mail providers are marked undeliverable.
Role accounts
Addresses like info@ or support@ are flagged and lower the score, but are not rejected.
MX records
A domain with neither an MX nor an A record cannot receive mail, so the address is marked undeliverable.
Mailbox check
Once your account has been approved, MailLand also asks the receiving server whether the mailbox exists, and reports catch-all servers and full or disabled mailboxes. You can turn this check off for a request.
Five results, each with a score
| What it means | |
|---|---|
| Deliverable | The address is valid and the receiving server accepted the mailbox. |
| Risky | It may work, but something lowers confidence: a catch-all server, a role account or a full mailbox. |
| Unknown | The receiving server did not give an answer, for example because of a timeout. |
| Undeliverable | Do not send: the address failed a check, such as invalid syntax, a disposable domain, no MX or A record, or a disabled mailbox. |
| Invalid | A typo in the domain is very likely; the response carries the suggested address. |
Validate the way you work
One address, while the user waits
Validate an address from your sign-up or checkout form with one API call.
Up to 100 per request
Send up to 100 addresses in one request. Each distinct address is checked once, and results come back in the order the addresses first appear. Split a longer list across several requests.
In the dashboard
Paste a list, see each result and score, and download the results as CSV. Past checks stay in your history, with addresses partly masked.
Its own key type
Validation uses its own API key type, starting with ml_pv_, kept apart from your sending keys.
Credits
A monthly allowance
One check uses one credit. Each account has 100 credits a month by default, they renew on the first day of each month (UTC), and the dashboard warns you when a tenth of them remain.
Some checks are free
Disposable domains, near-certain typos and checks the receiving server could not answer do not use a credit.
No half-finished batches
Credits are checked before a batch starts. If there are not enough for the whole batch, it is refused, rather than stopping halfway.
Questions about validation
Is a Deliverable result certain?
No. It means the receiving server accepted the mailbox when we asked. Some servers accept every address or will not answer at all, which is why each result has a score and why Risky and Unknown exist.
Do you send an email to the address?
No. The mailbox check talks to the receiving server without delivering a message.
Can MailLand stop bad addresses when I send?
Yes, as a separate setting. Typo and disposable-address protection can refuse such recipients on the transactional or marketing stream. It is off by default.
What if I need more credits?
Contact us with your expected volume and we will discuss it with you.
